About White Peony

White Peony, also known as Bai Mudan, is a type of white tea that originates from the Fujian province in China. It is considered one of the classic and highly regarded white tea varieties. White Peony is made from the plucking of both the tea buds and the two leaves next to each bud. The tea undergoes minimal processing, which includes withering and drying, allowing the natural flavours and characteristics of the tea leaves to shine.

White Peony is characterized by its plump, downy buds and the two leaves attached to each bud. The appearance is often described as having a silver-green colour with white downy hairs, giving the leaves a slightly fuzzy or "peony" appearance.

White Peony is known for its delicate and mild flavour. It offers a subtle sweetness with floral undertones. The taste is less vegetal than some green teas and less robust than certain black teas, providing a well-balanced and nuanced cup.

The aroma of White Peony is often fresh, floral, and slightly fruity. The fragrance is part of the tea's appeal and adds to the overall sensory experience.

The brewed liquor of White Peony is pale yellow or light amber. The color may vary based on factors such as the specific tea leaves, brewing time, and water temperature.

White Peony contains less caffeine compared to more oxidized teas like black tea. This makes it a suitable choice for those looking for a tea with a milder caffeine content.

Like other types of tea, White Peony contains antioxidants that are believed to have various health benefits. The minimal processing helps preserve these beneficial compounds. Leaving tea leaves so close to their natural state means that white tea contains more polyphenols than any other type of tea. It is these powerful antioxidants that are responsible for killing cancer-causing cells.

White tea has been proven to provide protection within the body for the skin and skin cells.  It protects the cells from sun damage and possibly prevents skin cancer thanks to the protective measure it takes once inside the body.
