This delicious pure Chinese green tea is one of the most famous and popular varieties available and for good reason - it is delicate, bright with a delectable honeyed finish.

Mao Feng is a Chinese tea with a fantastic pedigree and dedicated following. Also known as Huangshan Meofeng, it is a fine grade green tea grown in the Yellow Mountain region of the Anhui province for more than 300 years. This tea is handpicked from only the new buds and leaf in the first weeks of the season and then rolled into a curled needle shape.

The use of only the youngest leaves and bud result in a brighter, sweeter green tea than many green teas with a nutty aroma and a smooth honeyed taste.

If you love the unique flavour of mao feng leaves, you can also try these same leaves as Keemun Mao Feng, our aromatic black tea with a cocoa finish.

To Enjoy

Place one teaspoon per cup into an infuser, filter or teapot. Switch the kettle off, before it boils, when you hear the water rumbling. Add the hot, but not boiling, water and infuse for 3 minutes. Serve immediately or remove leaves to prevent spoiling.

About Green Mao Feng

Green Mao Feng originates from China, and it is often associated with tea-producing regions such as Huangshan (Yellow Mountain) in Anhui Province. The local terroir and climate contribute to the unique flavour profile of Mao Feng tea.

Mao Feng, translated as "Fur Peak," refers to the appearance of the tea leaves. The leaves are picked early in the season and are characterized by their fine, downy hairs and a distinctive pointed shape, resembling a fur-covered peak.

Mao Feng tea is typically made from young and tender leaves, often harvested in the early spring. The leaves undergo minimal oxidation during processing, preserving their green color and allowing the tea to retain its freshness and delicate flavors.

Green Mao Feng is celebrated for its fresh, sweet, and slightly nutty flavour. The tea liquor tends to be light and bright, with a smooth and crisp taste. The downy hairs on the leaves contribute to a silky texture.

The aroma of Green Mao Feng is often described as vegetal, with hints of chestnut or floral notes. The fragrance is delicate and inviting, reflecting the high-quality leaves used in its production.

To brew Green Mao Feng, use water that is around 80 to 85°C (175 to 185°F). Allow the leaves to steep for about 2-3 minutes. Adjust the steeping time to personal preferences, but be cautious not to overbrew, as it may lead to bitterness.

Green tea, including Mao Feng, is known for its potential health benefits. It contains antioxidants and compounds that may contribute to overall well-being, such as catechins and polyphenols.

Green Mao Feng can be enjoyed on its own or paired with light meals. Its refreshing and nuanced profile makes it suitable for various occasions, from a morning pick-me-up to an afternoon tea.

Like other green teas, Mao Feng contains moderate levels of caffeine. It provides a mild energy boost without the higher caffeine levels found in some black teas or coffee.
